Environmental infrastructure fund John Laing Environmental Assets on Wednesday acquired an anaerobic digestion asset Biogas Meden for £16.2m from a subsidiary of BayWa r.e Renewable Energy.

The company now had six anaerobic digestion projects and the total capacity of the renewable energy assets in the JLEN investment portfolio was boosted to 279.2 megawatts.

The anaerobic digestion plant, commissioned in March 2016, had a thermal capacity of about 5MWth and predominantly produced biomethane to be injected to the national gas grid.

'This latest acquisition takes the Company's portfolio beyond £500m and delivers on the Company's recent ambition to further diversify its portfolio into the bioenergy sector,' said Richard Morse, Chairman of JLEN.
