Board game supplier Games Workshop Group reported Tuesday record sales and profits as its trade segment grew by more than fifth in the first half of the year.

For the six months to 2 December 2018, pre-tax profits grew 7.1% to £44.8m and reported revenue grew by 14% to £125.2m for the period.

The company's trade segment helped bolster revenue as it achieved growth of 26% after trade outlets increased by about 300 accounts, helping to drive forward sales in this channel, Games Workshop said.

'A large number of our independent retailers now also sell our products online which in turn has given our customers more places to buy our products online,' it added. The company declared a dividend of 25p a share.

The company admitted, however, that its gross margin and stock levels 'are not currently where we'd like them to be' but said that capacity would increase once its new Nottingham factory and ERP projects were completed.

'These further investments will help us maintain our current volumes, increase efficiencies, and give us good scope for sales growth in the future,' Game Workshop said.
