Johnson Matthey said it had been contracted to supply methanol technology to a proposed new production plant being developed by Methanex in Louisiana.

Johnson Matthey would supply autothermal reformer methanol technology, including associated basic engineering, proprietary equipment and catalyst supply.

Methanex had in July reached a final investment decision to construct the 1.8m tonne methanol facility in Geismar, Louisiana adjacent to its existing Geismar 1 and Geismar 2 facilities.

Construction on the $1.3bn–to-1.4bn plant would begin later this year, with operations targeted for the second half of 2022.

'We are delighted to be selected as technology supplier by Methanex yet again, demonstrating our ability to deliver a bespoke flowsheet to suit our customers' requirements,' chief executive John Gordon said.

'We look forward to closely supporting the project through the engineering, construction, commissioning and start-up phases and into ongoing operation.' At 1:12pm: (LON:JMAT) Johnson Matthey PLC share price was +67.5p at 3181.5p
